Melinda "Sandy Redd" Bussie
Singer/Songwriter/Actress
If you’ve ever heard people talking about some of Chicago’s hottest up and coming artists, SandyRedd’s name would definitely be on the top of that list. She is one of the most talented singers, song writers and performers taking Chicago by storm. Her way with words, her captivating energy, her impeccable delivery, and her soulful voice softens even the hardest of hearts. “She’s my favorite singer in Chicago!” says Will of Day 26. And her style and sound is so unique, that it’s hard to compare her to just one person. She's been compared to such greats from Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, and Erika Badu, to Faith Evans, Alicia Keys, and Jazmine Sullivan. “One of the hottest singers in the nation!” says Comedian Lil Rel.
The seeds to her soulful sound were first planted by her Mother, Evangelist Margaret Owens-Bussie. As a gospel singer, songwriter & mother of 8, she made it her life's work to give her children something that no one could ever take away, a song!! Unfortunately, in 2006 SandyRedd & the family lost their mother to cancer. And although it was a very trying time for the family, she’s been determined to see her mother’s dream live on. In 2009 Sandy paired in an artist manager relationship with a young man by the name of Kareem Thomas, and together, they began to knock down doors that would put her in front. So performing for several notable events for Rev. Jesse Jackson on his nationally televised show, or for WGCI’s “Whispers In the Dark” Concert, or opening for artist such as 50cent, Monica, Souljah Boy & Lloyd Banks at the UIC Pavilion is no stranger to the rising star. “She doin her thang on the mic man!” says Jeremih of Def Jam.
In addition to local performances, she has also displayed such a lyrical talent that has allowed her to write for such producers as Multi-Platinum Producer Toxic of Toxic Productions, Grammy Award Winning Producer Earl Powell of Eptone Productions, and Grammy Award Winning Producer Maurice Joshua. So she’s only getting bigger and better with time. As a triple threat, SanyRedd continued to open for and work with such artist like Day 26, MC Lyte, Kim Fields of Living Single, Rhona Bennett of the Jamie Foxx Show & Bobbie Brown, among many others. Not to mention, she also entered into a collaboration with recording artist Slique on his new hit single “The Movie” and is now in regular rotation on Chicago’s hit radio station 107.5 WGCI along with her own hit single “Everywhere I Go”. “She better than Faith Evans to me yaw!” says DJ Phantom of WGCI.
SandyRedd has also proven to be a well rounded artist, taking the lead roles in over 10 musical stage plays which included “Love the Hurt Away” featuring Reginald Ballard aka Bra Man of the Martin Sitcom, Bern Nadette Stanis aka Thelma of the Good Times sitcom, & Tamika Scott of the R&B group Xscape, as well as “The Ideal Husband” featuring Shirley Murdock, Carl Payne aka Cole of the Martin sitcom & Terrell Carter of Madea Goes to Jail. The hit stage play “The Ideal Husband” written & directed by John Ruffin, did so well, it was quickly picked up by the GMC Television Network. And with SandyRedd remaining as part of the television cast, the show aired nationally and broke network records in February 2011. Added to the cast was recording artist Ginuwine, Darrin Henson of Stomp the Yard, Jackee Harry of 227, Clifton Powell of Next Friday, Shanti Lowry of BET’s The Game, & Erica Hubbard of Akilah & the Bee. “I can’t wait to work with you again!” says Ginuwine.
So, as Chicago’s rising star, her dreams within reach, and nowhere to go but up, she only hopes that her adoring fans stick around for the ride. "My prayer is that I stay humble and grounded with family and friends through out my experiences. I'm also learning to be patient and not to rush things. I truly believe that God has a plan for me and my family and I'm beginning to use the gifts that he's blessed me with. I can only hope that I make him and my mother proud!!!” -SandyRedd-
